My name is Charlotte Annete. I am a young English woman from Philadelphia. I have lived here all of my life. I am twenty-six years old. My parents just moved in with me. My brother lives and is fighting in western Pennsylvania.

Day One

Today I learned that there is a war in the west between the French and the Native Americans. I read about it in the Philadelphia Exponent. I talked to my friends to see what they thought. They told me how brutal the war is. They told me about the bloody massacres and battles that were happening. and how they were scared of a potential invasion of those vicious French troops. My talk with them put myself into a state of fear. I was also scared of a invasion.

Day Eight

Today marks a week after I learned about the war out west. After a lot of thinking, I have decided to join alliance with the British war effort. I have begun hosting soldiers in my house. Tonight there are seven males and three females staying at my house. They tell me how terrifying the war is. Tomorrow I am expected to have double the amount of people!

Day Fifteen

I have started providing oil and wood to my guests. I have a famous guest by the name of General Braddock. Tomorrow he says he plans to fight the Indians. I am scared for him. I have heard stories from other soldiers that out in Western Pennsylvania the Indians are fierce. I have read of thousands of deaths. All of the females that are staying have been crying nonstop worrying about their husbands. I am trying to do whatever I can to help. Three days ago I loaned a horse a couple of men so they could transfer goods and ammunition faster out to General Braddock. I told them if they see my brother while they travel, tell him I’m alive. He has been out there for three months now. My family is worried about him just as much as the families are.

Day Twenty-five

Today I heard the news that General Braddock’s crew blundered into an enemy force composed of French and Native Americans near Fort Duquesne.” After several hours fighting the British were defeated and forced to retreat with Braddock dying shortly afterwards his awful wounds. The remainder of his force returned to Philadelphia and took up quarters intending no further action that year. “ That is what the newspaper told me this morning. My friend picked it up for me. I was shocked when I heard it. I have received word from soldiers that my brother wasn't in his General Braddock's group of men. I was relieved yet at the same time I feel bad for the family members of the soldiers who had lost their lives in battle. Today is a rough day for everyone in Pennsylvania, all over the state.

4 years later...

I know it has been awhile since I have wrote in my diary, but since then the war has become official, and the French had taken the upper hand. Last year, the British started to gain the upper hand for once. This year the news has continued with the British still being on top. I also have received word that my brother will be sent home soon. They said he has come down with a case of Pneumonia. I am so happy he is still alive, but he is still sick so I am still worried just a little bit.

In 1764...

The war has come to an end. The British has taken complete control of North America. The country has been set off in an party all day every day. Despite my brother passing away last year after being sent back to fight, I still feel that I am happy of how my life is going. I have lived through the worst war in history, I am so lucky I have survived this long.
